Track Level Descriptions
Beginner
The Beginner level is not only for pure beginners but is also for people that are comfortable with 6-count swing, outside turns, side pass, and have had some exposure to swing outs. This WILL be an informative level for the more seasoned beginner. Pure beginners don't be scared: after all of these classes and the many, great social dances, you will be very comfortable with Lindy Hop! This level typically covers people who have been dancing from 0 - 3 years.
Intermediate
The Intermediate level is for Lindy Hoppers that would like to brush up their basic Lindy Hop and Charleston movements (swing outs and variations within them, transitions, tandem Charleston, side by side Charleston, etc.) and get a better understanding of the connection within these movements. By the end of the weekend, this level will have added more variations to their basic and more movements to their Lindy Hop and (even solo!) Charleston repertoire.
Advanced
The Advanced level is for the seasoned Lindy Hopper. These dancers have multiple variations in their basics and are comfortable with and can easily transition from Lindy Hop to Charleston and even Balboa smoothly. They have a complete understanding of basic Lindy Hop and Charleston movements and can do them comfortably with almost everyone they dance with, no matter what scene they’re in or city they're from. This level will challenge the most talented dancers at the weekend.
**All Levels, Please Note:
While we ask that you place yourself in the appropriate level during registration, all dancers at AVS 2011 will complete a level test. Final placement in all levels is up to the discretion of the Atlanta Varsity Showdown organizers. At any time during the weekend you may be asked to move to a different level (up or down). Please understand that this request would be made in order to ensure that all of the students (including yourself) at AVS would be in the best learning environment possible. If you choose not to comply with the AVS organizers’ request, you will be politely asked not to take the classes and you will not be given a refund, as the Atlanta Varsity Showdown has a Zero Refund Policy.
